2001

January 6, 01  Eureka

The 19th Annual Bluegrass America Bluegrass Festival fiddle contest was held at the Days Inn in Eureka, MO on January 6, 2001, and administered by Kathy Portz.  The judges were Andy Dye, Dub Crouch, Joe Rapisardo, and Dean Crow.  For the Open Division, of the 16 fiddlers entered in the lists, those taking trophies home were: 1st, Leesil Shoenberger, Cape Girardeau; 2nd, Geoff Seitz, St Louis; 3rd, Chris Brashear, Pehlam, Mass.; 4th, Amy LeGrand, Hazelwood; 5th, Jeremy Brown, St Louis 6th, Howard Marshall, Fulton. A number of other fiddlers played in the many jam sessions but did not enter the contest (for example, Gene Goforth of High Ridge, Vesta Johnson of Kirkwood, and Quintin Huck of Ste. Genevieve). In the banjo contest, the winners were: 1st, Chris Talley; 2nd, Ed Richards; 3rd, Chris Starkey; 4th, Rex Hancock; 5th, Justin Robbins; 6th, Lida Bringe.  A fine time was had by all.  (submitted by H.
